Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

MeetBills is a personal finance application operated as a sole-proprietor product. When this policy says “MeetBills”, “we”, or “our”, it refers to the individual operating this service. You can reach us at billing@meetbills.com.

2. What data we collect

We collect only the data needed to provide the service:

  • Account information — your email address and a hashed password (we never store your password in plain text).
  • Budget and transaction data — the budgets, accounts, categories, and transactions you create or import.
  • Bank connection data — if you connect a bank account via Plaid, we receive account names, balances, and transaction history on your behalf. We do not store your bank credentials.
  • Subscription status — your billing plan and subscription state, managed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers.
  • Usage data — basic server logs (IP address, browser type, request timestamps) retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging.

3. How we use your data

We use your data solely to provide, maintain, and improve MeetBills:

  • Authenticating you and keeping your account secure.
  • Displaying your budgets, transactions, and reports to you.
  • Syncing bank transactions via Plaid when you opt in.
  • Processing your subscription payments via Stripe.
  • Sending transactional emails (confirmation, password reset, bill reminders you opt into) via Resend.
  • Generating AI-powered insights (the AI Coach, spending explainer, and similar features) via Anthropic or OpenRouter — only when you explicitly opt in. A minimal, anonymized snapshot of your budget data is sent; raw transaction payees and memo text are redacted before being sent to any AI provider.

We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to train AI models.

4. Sub-processors

We rely on the following third-party services to operate MeetBills:

  • Supabase — database hosting and authentication (data stored in the US).
  • Vercel — application hosting and edge delivery.
  • Plaid — bank account connections. Plaid has its own privacy policy governing how it handles your banking credentials.
  • Stripe — payment processing. Stripe has its own privacy policy and is PCI-DSS compliant.
  • Resend — transactional email delivery.
  • Anthropic / OpenRouter — AI inference, used only for opted-in AI features. Redacted budget snapshots only; no raw transaction details.
  • Sentry — error monitoring. Sensitive fields are scrubbed from error reports.

5. Data retention and deletion

Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the app. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., billing records required for tax purposes, retained for 7 years).

6. Security

We use industry-standard security practices: encrypted connections (TLS), hashed passwords, row-level security in the database, and access controls that limit which application code can read which data. No system is perfectly secure — please use a strong unique password and enable any two-factor authentication options your email provider offers.

7. Cookies

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, email us at billing@meetbills.com. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes we will notify you by email or by a prominent notice in the app before the changes take effect.
